Tasting Notes: Tenute Campo al Mare in Bolgheri, Italy, is owned by the Folonari family who have been producing wine since the late 18th century. Bolgheri, mainly known for their Bordeaux-style wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and whites like Vermentino, was made famous in 1974 when a wine from the region defeated a variety of Bordeaux in international competition. The region’s climate is kept moderate by sea breezes, which create a crisp acidity and liveliness in their wines. The 2012 Vermentino features aromas of ripe citrus fruit with notes of sage and other herbs. It is fresh and energetic on the palate with good acidity and minerality, making it an ideal companion for afternoons spent relaxing on the patio.
Food Pairings: grilled fish, shellfish, creamy tomato-avocado toast
